Equestrians...I Need Your Help.

OK, so, I just finished painting the cutest image of a girl with a horse. What do you think???

But now I need to write the story to go with it. My experience with horses is pretty limited. I used to ride with a friend growing up in Hawaii but she was the horse nut...I just tagged along.

Horse Enthusiasts... Please help me. Why do you love horses? What makes them your favorite animal? What insights can you give me?

  1. Dear Suzy,

First of all, I love the horse print. Fabulous job and I will be ordering.

Why I love horses... lots of reasons. :=)

I love my horse because just breathing in the scent of him takes me to a place that is calm and quiet and familar. Hearing him nay when I am walking to the barn is a sweet hello from my 4 legged friend...it's as if he is saying "hello, where have you been...I've been waiting to see you all day." I love horses because they are the best at keeping your secrets, they listen to your problems without judging you and when things seem at there worst, a horse will come up and nudge you as if telling you everything is going to be all right and that you are safe.

Riding is something totally different. It's freedom to explore, freedom to think, freedom to ride until you feel like you can't ride any longer. It's strength, muscle, sweat and power. It's teamwork. Riding is most importantly about trust that your horse will take you wherever you want to go safely while your horse trusts that you will keep him or her safe on your journey.

Here are a few quotes that help to explain what I feel about horses...

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~Winston Churchill

The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears. ~Arabian Proverb

To ride a horse is to ride the sky. ~Author Unknown

There is no secret so close as that between a rider and his horse. ~Robert Smith Surtees, "Chapter XXX: Bolting the Badger," Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour, 1853

A lovely horse is always an experience.... It is an emotional experience of the kind that is spoiled by words. ~Beryl Markham

  3. I heard from a friend. That you are looking to interveiw. I have loved horses ever since I can remember! Horses are truly gods sorry present from men. Hehe! When I was 2 or 3 and there was a trailor on front of our car I would always say "Mommy, there is horses in there!" When in fact there was none. Please write back.

  4. I love it...I actually used to think that every semi truck I ever saw was filled with pineapples since I once saw one filled with them... I still think of that when I see them!

Although I do like to ride with friends, I am really not a "horse nut"...but I am an animal lover. I used to feel sorry for horses traveling in a trailer until one day I saw the inside of a trailer used to haul prized race horses and I realized it was nicer than my living room!!! Some of those Kentucky Horse people take their horse trailers very seriously!!!

  5. When I was 16 I got a summer job at a local State Park. My job was to assist the Park Ranger Zelda with caring for the horses in exchange for riding lessons. On my first day the horse that I was to care for STAR decided to stand on my foot while I was brushing him and he would not get off of it. No matter what anyone did STAR felt very comfortable standing on my riding boot. I had also been at the tail end and I think the carrots didn't sit well in his stomach, need I say more! Finally.. he decided to move and I was so relieved. So back on the horse I went to continue my riding lessons. Zelda started heading her horse to the lake for a drink so I followed along. This is when STAR decided to walk slowly into the lake! Deeper and deeper he went.. we were almost to swim status when he stop and decided to turn around. This is my first upclose horse experience and I wouldn't change it for the world. STAR will always have a special place in my heart!

  7. Horses, to me, are a very free willed and flighty animal (not in a bad way). But in a way that makes me want to touch them on the head and learn their secrets to life. They live to run and are a very beautiful, free spirited animal. Animal, I hate using that word for horses, birds, dolphins, and Panthers. These are the most majestic creatures in our world. Take your time and go for a walk in the woods, watch the birds soar above you, listen to their songs. My personal experience with horses was a great gift to me. We owned a 97 acre horse "farm", I guess you could call it. We grew oats for them to eat, and corn for the chickens. But my favorite thing to do would be to sit with the 20 horses that were always in the field and watching them all run around me and some would never leave my side. Then the time I was really down and sitting by one of the lakes this one older blonde horse would stand with me while I wrote in a journal, drew or took pictures. See at the lake we had a drainage system that would constantly drain out the overflow to prevent the fields from flooding and the horses from getting hurt. But it always sounded like a roaring waterfall. I love it and would imagine all the negative thoughts and feelings in my life where rushing down with the water. :) By the by I bought a calendar for my mother-in-law think it is the dare to be wacky for 2013. We both love it! Good luck with your story! If you need anything else from me please email me at ringmasters_mother@yahoo.com

    1. I am the same person as above* There was this one Palomino horse that hated my father and my brother, oh but they all loved me. I would watch my dad from inside the house trying to get the Palomino into a halter and he never would go near him. So when my dad gave up he would always come find me and have me do it. You see the Palomino would always walk right up to me and actually all I had to do was hold out the halter and he would walk right into it and then let me click on the lead and take him out for a run. My father would get so furious! Then the one donkey we had always loved to step on and kick my brother, yet I could walk all around every single one of the animals with no issue. Was pretty funny at the time. :)
